Yes, even here in Central Oregon, you can enjoy the beautiful spring blooming, evergreen, rhododendrons! Moonfire and Sun provides varieties that, once established, are cold hardy and heat resistant. The Calsap variety has a white flower with a dark red throat. Maximum roseum is a sun and heat tolerant variety with a pinkish-lilac bloom. Stop by to check out the rest of our selection. Although we provide varieties that are suitable for our climate, proper location in the landscape is key. Rhododendrons do best in the high desert, when they are provided with afternoon shade and protection from the drying winds. After you find the proper home for your rhododendron, it is important to maintain desirable soil conditions. This is attained easily enough by amending your natural soils with acid planting mix when planting. Continue to top dress every spring and fall with the acid planting mix to hold moisture, maintain proper acidic levels, protect during winters, and most importantly, improve your success.
